Wm Pilles bill of Sale from Caleb Carwithen Entered of  1676

 

This indenture made the 8th day of Feb. in ye 23rd yeare of ye reigne of our sovereign lord Charles the Second of England, Scotland, ffrance & Ireland, King, and in the yeare of our lord 1670, between Caleb Carwithen of Elizabeth towne, in the province of New Jersey mariner of the one party, and William Pilles of the same towne & province husband man of ye other party, witnessith that the said Caleb Carwithen hath for and in consideration of the sum of elleven pounds sterling in hand paid, given, granted, bargained, & sold and by these presents doe give grant bargain & sell unto the said Wm. Pilles, his heirs, and assignors, thirty acres of upland situated and being upon Rawack Neck within the confines of Elizabeth towne aforesaid, being part of his the said Caleb’s second decision, with the timber, wood, and home thereon as it was laide out to the said Caleb, bounded with the land of the said Wm. Pilles on the S. E. and the land of Wm. Olliver on ye N. W. and the meadows, forest, and house ye Wm. bargained p__sses wh___ app____ nam___ the said Caleb doth hereby make over unto ye said Wm and to his heirs, and assignes for ever and the said Caleb doth hereby ingage for him selfe and for his heirs for ever not to molest, sell, or hinder the said William Pilles, his heirs or assignes in ye peaceable enjoyment of the premises but that the said William shall be sufficiently found and kept harmless by him the said Caleb of and from all manner of former bargaines sales leases or grants whatsoever, in witness whereof ye said Caleb Carwithen hath set to his hand and & seale ye day and year first above written.
