Bible – First belonged to John Russell Hare (b. 1839 – d. 1881) and his wife Sarah Lee Cockman (b. 1845 – d. 1887). Transcribed by Fred Meek, 2008. The information in this bible may have been entered by Sarah Lee, as the word Bornd changes to born after she dies. I suspect one of the children entered the dates after 1887. My comments are in parenthesis.

(This text appears to be based on the poem “Lalla Rookh” first published by
Thomas Moore in 1817, and often quoted by later poets)
O! ever thus from childhood's hour,
I've seen my fondest
hopes decay;
I never loved a
tree or flower,
But 'twas the first to fade away!
